Have you ever wondered what the definition of an "icon" is? The answer: Lady Gaga. The combination of her talents as a performer and her devotion to LGBTQ rights has allowed fans all across the world to witness her inspiring acts. So, here are five reminders from Lady Gaga that you are perfect just the way you are because "baby, you were born this way."
1. Monster Ball Speech
“I want you to reject everything and everyone who’s ever made you feel like you don’t belong… you just remember that you’re a g*dd*mn superstar!” Those are the words that fans at Gaga’s Monster Ball in 2014 got the chance to hear as she stands at a podium, preaching to a filled Madison Square Garden.
2. "Would it be so terrible?"
By now, we’ve all seen the infamous 2011 Anderson Cooper interview where Gaga is asked if she has a male appendage. Nowadays, it’s hard to believe someone would ask a celebrity this on national television, but back then, Lady Gaga handled the question with grace. She even said, "My fans don’t care, and neither do I." We love to see trans visibility. Check out this clip from the CBS segment.
3. "I would take a bullet for you!"
During 2019 Pride celebrations, Gaga visited Stonewall and encouraged queer fans to "keep spreading this message of unity." She was decked out in rainbow apparel and on the verge of tears as she declared, “I would take a bullet for you!”
4. She’s proud of us!
In collaboration with Allure magazine, Gaga surprised a fan during a make-up tutorial and it’s tear inducing – in a good way! He shared with her all of the ways that she encouraged him to embrace his sexuality and live his truth. Gaga wiped away tears of her own and wrapped the fan in a huge hug.
5. Follow your dreams
Lady Gaga explained to Oprah that, in order to become the best version of herself, she needed to fully accept who she was. Her advice is for others to be proud of their strengths too, and unafraid to follow their dreams!
In the words of Lady Gaga (as per “Born This Way”), “don’t hide yourself in regret / just love yourself and you’re set.” Be proud of who you are, and remember – Lady Gaga believes in you!
