Zendaya has designed a capsule collection inspired by her upcoming film The Greatest Showman
The 21-year-old actress and singer plays trapeze artist Anne Wheeler in the musical, alongside Michelle Williams, Zac Efron and Hugh Jackman, who stars as the real-life title character P. T. Barnum.
Ahead of its release next month (Dec17), Zendaya has teamed up with New York department store Bloomingdale's, where earlier this week (beg20Nov17) she unveiled its new The Greatest Holiday Windows, which showcases the garments on offer inside.
Some of the clothes were designed by the star herself, who has created a range for the company's in-house label, Aqua.
“I wanted to take the fantastical essence of the movie and make it wearable,” she told WWD of the venture, which features glittering maxi skirts and embroidered gowns.
"We took the elements and the ideas of the movie and made them make sense for someone who is going to a cocktail party," she further shared with People. "And there’s a lot of glitter and a lot of shine going on, so if you literally pair anything with a simple, pointy toe black pump, then you’re good to go.”
Bloomingdale’s chairman and chief executive officer Tony Spring also spoke to WWD, explaining that customers are going to get “a lot of dress for the money” they spend.
“You can feel the attitude, opulence and optimism of the film injected in every touch point to the consumer, through the store, online, in our social media, in our products running through giftables, fashion, jewelry, sweaters and dresses, and the windows,” he added.
Despite launching the line at the time of the Black Friday sales, Zendaya says you won’t see her out shopping this week.
“I don’t go,” she told People. “I’m always afraid because it’s the busiest time to go. The best thing for me is wait until the online one comes out, and do everything online.”
