Hit TV drama Nashville is to end after six seasons.
The musical series about life behind the scenes of the country music industry survived a cancellation by bosses at ABC and the departure of leading lady Connie Britton, but now creator Callie Khouri is wrapping up the story after breaking ratings records at cable network CMT.
Announcing the news on Friday (17Nov17), executive producer Marshall Herskovitz said, "All of us on Nashville are so incredibly grateful to the show's fans, who convinced CMT to give us a chance to keep telling the story of these remarkable characters.
"We want to return the favor with a final season that celebrates all the joys and passions, twists and turns - and amazing music - that made Nashville such an exciting journey for the last six years."
Nashville has become a global hit and currently airs in 225 territories worldwide, according to Deadline.
The show stars Hayden Panettiere, Clare Bowen, Chris Carmack, Charles Esten, Kaitlin Doubleday, and Jonathan Jackson, among others.
CMT bosses have also axed Billy Ray Cyrus' comedy series Still the King, in which the Achy Breaky Heart singer portrayed a scheming Elvis Presley impersonator.
The show broke CMT ratings records when it launched in 2016, becoming the network’s highest-rated original series premiere. Its second season aired over the summer (17).
