Rihanna thrilled by fan frenzy for Fenty x Puma collection

Rihanna can’t believe the excitement her new Fenty X Puma collection has ignited amongst fans.

The popstar launched her autumn/winter 2016 collaboration with the German sportswear giant on Tuesday (06Sep16), meeting keen fashionistas at events held at Footlocker and department store Bergdorf Goodman in New York City.

Her edgy collection, mostly in black and white, includes loose sweaters and pants, dresses, skirts, sneakers and sneaker heels, all with a distinct nod to Japanese street culture.

While crowds swarmed the Needed Me singer as she posed at Bergdorf's kitted out in pieces from the range, she thanked both the store directors and shoppers for their enthusiasm.

"For an island girl like me to carry such a prestigious brand like Puma from just the athleticism of the brand to glamour, and bring it all the way to Bergdorf Goodman is such a big deal for me," she told the crowd, according to FootwearNews. "It makes me feel very special. Thank you guys for taking a chance on me. I can’t believe my fans can come here and buy my collection."

In particular, the 28-year-old has garnered attention for her shoes, which she first debuted at New York Fashion Week in February (16).

And the fall '16 line does include a range of shoes outside of the Fenty x Puma creepers, trainers and faux fur slides that have already been released. The new styles, which are priced from $325 to $750, include pointed heel lace-ups and over-the-knee pairs with a boxing boots influence, as well as wedge combat boots. It seems the new styles will prove popular, as within 15 minutes of Rihanna’s appearance, Bergdorf’s stock of shoes had sold out, as well as much of its clothing and apparel.

In a lighter moment, a reporter from The Cut pointed out that the range had the feel of the “the health Goth apocalypse,” to which the Barbadian singer replied jokingly that her sportswear does have a flavour of “The Addams Family, working out.”
