'N Sync star Chris Kirkpatrick is engaged

Chris Kirkpatrick is set to follow his former 'N Sync bandmate Justin Timberlake down the aisle after asking his girlfriend to marry him.

As Timberlake and his wife-to-be Jessica Biel were making plans to wed in Italy, the Bye Bye Bye singer was also feeling the romance of the country during a vacation on the Isle of Capri, and proposed to Karly Skladany.

He tells People.com, "We had a hotel room at the Isle of Capri, overlooking the Mediterranean. It was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. And it hit me, I wanted to propose to Karly. So I ran to a jewellery store, found the perfect ring and bought it."

Kirkpatrick then called the 28 year old's father to ask for his blessing: "He didn't answer his phone, so I left him this message like, 'Um, this is Chris, and I just wanted to talk and ask a few questions.' I was nervous, which was funny. He called right back and, of course, he gave his blessing."

The former hitmaker then popped the question with a large oval-cut diamond - and Skladany said yes.

He continues, "We were sitting on the balcony with a bottle of champagne and I put the ring in her glass. I know it sounds cheesy, but it was romantic. As soon as I asked her, she said, 'It's about time!' And we laughed. It was spur of the moment, but it was absolutely perfect... We're both so happy; this is a really good time for us."

And he insists his wedding proposal had nothing to do with Timberlake's nuptials, which he wasn't invited to.

He adds, "I already had plans to be in Italy anyway. It was just a coincidence that I was there when Justin got married."
