Mindy Kaling feels invisible in comparison to her world-famous co-stars on the set of Ocean's Eight.
The 37-year-old appears in the upcoming all-female reboot of the Brad Pitt and George Clooney-fronted Ocean's Eleven, with a host of famous names joining her, including singer Rihanna and actresses Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter.
Mindy has become used to the attention that comes with her celebrity status. However, she has nothing to worry about when in the company of her co-stars.
"With that group of women I have never felt so un-famous in my life," she sighed on Wednesday's (14Dec16) edition of Late Night with Seth Meyers. "I thought I was pretty cool, I have my own show and there are people think I'm Sandra Bullock's assistant. And they're like, 'Get out of the way, we need to bring Sandra her matcha tea.' I'm like, 'I'm in a scene with her, I'm not her assistant. But OK, yeah, whatever, I'll give her her matcha tea.'"
Things went up a level though when it came to sharing the screen with Rihanna, whose fame Mindy describes as a "whole other thing". When a huge group of paparazzi showed up to snap them on set The Mindy Project star enjoyed all eyes being on her, until realizing she wasn't the person they were focusing on.
"We shot a scene all eight of us together recently and when we walked outside there's this huge (gathering of) paparazzi," she recalled. "I was talking to Anne Hathaway, and Rihanna was kind of behind us and there was a sea of paparazzi taking photos and I was feeling cool and famous. And then Rihanna took a left to her trailer, which was not in the same direction me and Anne were going, and the paparazzi left so quickly it was like a desert."
Ocean's Eight is slated to hit theaters in 2018.
