Justin Bieber has infuriated Prince fans with a comment about the late musician on social media.
Prince, full name Prince Rogers Nelson, was found dead at his home in Minnesota on Thursday (21Apr16). At the time of WENN going to press his cause of death had yet to be determined.
Fans of the Purple Rain musician deluged Twitter and Instagram with tributes to their idol, with many focusing on the multi-instrumentalist's talents as a live act.
However, Bieber enraged Prince fans by disagreeing to a post made by singer/songwriter Andrew Watt on Instagram which paid tribute to the star by describing him as, "the last of the greatest living performers".
"Well not the last greatest living performer," the Sorry singer wrote in a response which has since been deleted.
The comment resulted in a flood of objections from fans, with those who had lost their musical idol describing the comments as showing disrespect to the deceased star.
"Can't believe some little wanna be child would disrespect someone as amazing as prince!" an Instagram user by the name of crazy_zef_betch420 wrote.
While another, with the handle magpielee added, "I'm content to say that Prince has more talent in his little toe nail than @justinbeiber will ever have."
In the wake of the musician's death, hundreds of stars around the world paid tribute to including Mariah Carey, Rolling Stones star Ronnie Wood, the actor Samuel L. Jackson and pop star Justin Timberlake.
Bieber himself was yet to comment on the row.
Authorities have launched an investigation into Prince's death, with a post-mortem due to be carried out on Friday (22Apr16).
