Joseph Gordon-Levitt never wanted his own Batman film
Inception actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt thinks Christopher Nolan got it right by not continuing with his Batman flicks.
The actor played Detective John Blake in the third film of The Dark Knight trilogy, with many fans hoping he was set to fill the caped crusader’s shoes in a forthcoming installment, taking over from Christian Bale.
Although the 2012 movie hinted that Blake would become Batman, a
standalone film has never materialized, and Joseph admits he’s glad
that’s the case.
“I know we're all used to the sort of Marvel movies, which are just
kind of endless series,” he told Cinema Blend. “They don't really
have a beginning, middle, and end. But I think Nolan very much
thought of that movie as a conclusion, and there's a theme that
runs through all three of those movies that begins in the first
movie, runs through the second movie and it concludes in that
moment where he says that Batman is more than a man, Batman is a
symbol. And so to have another man other than Bruce Wayne kind of
becoming Batman at the end of that trilogy, I think that's the
perfect ending to that story.”
While helming the role of Batman would be Joseph’s biggest role to
date, the actor’s schedule is always jam packed. The 35-year-old
has become known for his varied film roles, and in recent years has
played everyone from real life high-wire walker Philippe Petit in
The Walk, to loveable Ethan in Christmas comedy The Night
Before.
Next up audiences will see Joseph as Edward Snowden, the former CIA
employee who leaked classified information from the National
Security Agency (NSA) in 2013. Snowden hits cinemas from September
(16).
