Funnyman Jimmy Kimmel is returning to host the 2018 Oscars after impressing awards show bosses with the way he handled the Best Picture blunder in February (17).

The late night TV host took charge of the awkward situation after actress Faye Dunaway incorrectly announced La La Land had won the big prize, which eventually was handed to the director and producers of Moonlight.

The embarrassing moment became dubbed the biggest blunder in Oscars history.

Kimmel hosted the Oscars for the first time this year and still considers the gig "a highlight of my career".

"If you think we screwed up the ending this year, wait until you see what we have planned for the 90th anniversary show!" Kimmel said on Tuesday (16May17) after his hosting return was announced.

Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd will also return to produce the live show.

The 2018 Oscars will be held on 4 March (17) at Hollywood's Dolby Theater.
