Jaimie Alexander: 'I knew I wouldn't get Wonder Woman role'
Thor star Jaimie Alexander has no hard feelings about losing the Wonder Woman role to Israeli actress Gal Gadot, insisting she can't wait to see what she does with the part.
In a new interview with Variety, Jaimie admits that although she came close to landing the superheroine part, she knew it was never going to be hers - and Gadot was always the frontrunner.
And now she's happy to play fangirl when the Fast Five star makes
her debut as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
next month (Mar16).
"I'm excited to see what she's going to do with the role," Jaimie
told Variety. "I was one of a few people that were an obvious
choice for Wonder Woman, but it was never going to happen. I'm
contracted with Marvel and it would (be) strange."
But Jaimie is happy to be playing Lady Sif in the Thor films,
adding, "Sif, in her way, is Marvel's Wonder Woman. They're both
ethereal and have armor and a sword, and have special abilities;
the physicality of the role is very similar."
Gadot, who was cast as Amazonian princess-turned-superheroine
Wonder Woman last year (15), will star in her own stand-alone movie
next year (Jun17).
The Wonder Woman film will also feature Danish actress Connie
Nielsen, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, and
Trainspotting star Ewen Bremner.
The movie, which is currently shooting in Italy and the U.K., is
set during World War I.
Meanwhile, Jaimie is gearing up for the next Thor movie, Thor:
Ragnarok, which is also set for release in 2017.
