Idris Elba and Gemma Arterton's new film has reportedly bombed at the box office.
British actor Idris plays a former rugby ace battling addiction in London-based drama 100 Streets, with Gemma starring as his wife. According to British newspaper The Sun it took less than $372 in its opening weekend following a nationwide release in Britain last Friday (11Nov16).
A review of the film in newspaper The Guardian dubbed the movie which was written by Leon Butler and directed by Jim O' Hanlon "a superficial piece of storytelling".
While Idris has enjoyed great success recently in films like Pacific Rim and Star Trek Beyond, by contrast the low-budget movie has not performed well.
“To put it frankly, the figures are embarrassing. It’s not the first time Idris has failed to earn big numbers at the box office," a source told The Sun. "He is a massive film star but poor results like this are going to be detrimental to his career."
However, it's not all bad news for the 44-year-old Mandela star. He recently finished filming on Thor: Ragnarok where he reprises his role as Heimdall in the third film in the Marvel movie franchise and next year the handsome actor will be seen in the highly anticipated Stephen King adaptation The Dark Tower, in which he stars as gunslinger Roland Deschain.
