Eminem investing in music annotation company
Eminem has joined fellow rappers Nas and Pharrell Williams as an investor in music annotation company Genius.
The company will serve as the official annotation hub for the star's new music and the lyrics engine for Eminem.com. It will also house the annotations and lyrics for all of Eminem's Shady Records online properties, according to Billboard.com.
"Coming up we would always obsess over the lyrics from our favorite
MCs," a statement from the rapper reads. "Picking everything apart,
trying to get into their heads. I still do that today and Genius
helps to make it a worldwide conversation. Pretty amazing to
me."
"Genius provides an avenue for fans to dig deeper into their
favourite songs, but more importantly, it gives artists a way to
communicate their artistic intent directly to those fans," Eminem's
manager Paul Rosenberg adds. "For an artist like Eminem, the
intricacies and nuances in his lyrics are very layered and his art
is a perfect fit for this type of tool. We're excited about what
this partnership brings for both sides."
The company was founded in 2009.
