Demi Lovato: 'Shooting in the nude was tough'
Singer Demi Lovato found it challenging "going in the buff" for Vanity Fair magazine because she was unable to alter her image with Photoshop.
The 23-year-old Cool for the Summer hitmaker shot a spontaneous nude editorial with photographer Patrick Ecclesine for the publication, with images being released earlier this month (Oct15).
There was only one rule during the intimate photoshoot, which was
the final images could not be retouched, and baring all without the
possibility of editing how she looked definitely made Demi feel
insecure.
"The most challenging part of that photo shoot for me was going in
the buff with no Photoshop," she said to Access Hollywood. "There
were times where I was looking at the pictures with the
photographer and he would say, 'Oh, we could fix that,' and I was
like, 'No, we can't. We cannot use Photoshop in this shoot'."
Demi has been very vocal about her past struggles with addiction,
self-harm and eating disorders, and during the photoshoot she
avoided feeling too embarrassed by thinking about helping the
magazine's readers feel proud of their body shape.
"Of course it's awkward," she noted. "But when I start to think
about the message, when I would start to think about how many
people this would inspire, I got more comfortable doing it."
Demi has previously shared insight into her fitness regime,
insisting she loves to stay in trim for the physical benefits and
because engaging in regular exercise helps keep her head
straight.
"During each one of my training sessions, I focus on lengthening
and toning for the bottom half of my body; that means lots of
squats and lunge variations to keep my glutes and hips strong and
lean," she told the British edition of Women's Health magazine.
"I keep my core strong with planks, crunches, push-ups, lying glute
push-ups and bridges. This strengthens my body and helps prevent
injury when I'm performing on stage. Your core is your power
centre."
