David Bowie rejected Chris Martin's duet request

British singer Chris Martin tried to get David Bowie to record a duet with him but was rejected for not trying hard enough.

The veteran musician snubbed the Coldplay frontman because he did not feel the song he was asked to collaborate on was Martin's best effort.

At the inaugural BBC Music Awards on Thursday (11Dec14), in a video link of stars speaking about Bowie's success, Martin opened up about the musician.

He humorously spoke about his annoyance at Bowie's return to music with a new single in 2013, saying, "When Where Are We Now? came out I was staggered, and also annoyed. Like, 'Come on, it's not fair.' He's already got all these amazing songs and then this instant classic.

"One time, I sent him a song to ask him to sing on it. He called me and said, 'It's not one of your best.' He's got very high standards and I appreciate that. It inspires the rest of us to keep our standards high."
