Anna Kendrick sets sights on Squirrel Girl
Anna Kendrick is up for playing a big screen version of Marvel's Squirrel Girl - despite not knowing what the superhero does.
The Pitch Perfect star is the latest celebrity to want in on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and she already has a role in mind.
"My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I
should play her," Anna tells Net-A-Porter. "I don’t know what
Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half
squirrel!"
Squirrel Girl is the alter ego of Doreen Green, who is a
nature-loving, mutant superhero who defeats Iron Man's nemesis
Doctor Doom and keeps New York's famed Central Park safe. The
petite teen has super strength, speed, accelerated healing powers
and the ability to communicate with squirrels.
But Anna may have to wait a while to even get the chance to play
the superhero - as bosses at Marvel haven't announced any plans to
adapt the comic book for the big screen.
After news spread of Anna's interest in the role, fans were quick
to support the idea, with one user on Twitter even making a mock-up
poster, Photoshopping the star in an all brown outfit, while
standing in the woods surrounded by squirrels.
However, the 30-year-old actress is willing to wait for it if need
be, and even praised her friend and The Voices co-star Ryan
Reynolds for spending a decade trying to get his now-blockbuster
superhero film Deadpool made.
"Ryan is one of the most authentic people I’ve worked with; I can’t
think of a person more deserving of a hit like Deadpool. He worked
for so many years to get that film made because it’s a character
that was inside of him."
