Angelina Jolie tears up as Bosnian War victims recall rape horrors
Angelina Jolie was brought to tears during a United Nations trip to Bosnia on Friday (28Mar14) as she spoke to rape victims near Sarajevo.
The actress/director was promoting a campaign to end sexual violence against women in conflict zones when she met some women who were victims of the Bosnian War.
Eyewitnesses tell Reuters that Jolie cried as she listened to the
victims' stories in Srebrenica.
Munira Subasic, the head of the association of Srebrenica mothers,
told Jolie, "Our tradition is not to talk about the rape. Many
women have been through it but don't talk about it. That is why
this visit is important, to show them they don't have to cope with
it alone."
Jolie's directorial debut In the Land of Blood and Honey dealt with
sexual violence inflicted on a woman during the Bosnian crisis in
the early 1990s.
During her trip to the town, Jolie and the U.K.'s Foreign Secretary
William Hague also laid flowers at a cemetery for victims of the
conflict.
