Comedian-turned-politician Al Franken is projected to win a new term as a Senator.
The former Saturday Night Live star is expected to keep his Democratic Senate seat in Minnesota after gaining a six-point lead over Republican Mike McFadden during Tuesday's (04Nov14) polling, according to the Associated Press.
The win is a contrast from his 2009 victory, which was an eight-month long race.
He initially ran on Election Day on 4 November (08), but a recount was needed to separate him from Republican rival Norm Coleman.
Franken won after the recount, but a series of appeals delayed the result for eight months, and in June (09), he was declared the victor by the Minnesota Senate.
