Adele remembered Amy Winehouse on what would have been the tragic singer's 33rd birthday on Wednesday (14Sep16).

The Hello singer posted a throwback image of the Rehab star, who died of alcohol poisoning in 2011, and added a heartfelt caption.

She wrote: "Happy Birthday Amy X."

Fans joined Adele in paying tribute to the singer, offering up birthday greetings and comments.

The soulful Brit has made no secret of the fact she's a huge Winehouse fan, crediting Amy as the inspiration behind her decision to start writing music.

"If it wasn't for Amy and (debut album) Frank, 100 percent I wouldn't have picked up a guitar, I wouldn't have written Daydreamer or Hometown," she told Vice's i-D last year (15).

The two singers both attended talent academy the Brit School.
