Adele praises manager at Music Week Awards
Adele shone the spotlight on her longtime manager on Thursday (26Apr12) as she presented him with a trophy at the Music Week Awards in London.
The soul star handed Jonathan Dickins the Manager Of The Year prize and told the music industry crowd how she signed to his firm September Management after one meeting because "he made me laugh and he made a great cup of tea".
She said, "I'm going to get in trouble: Jonathan struggles to get
me to go to my own awards (shows) let alone to give him one...
"I first met Jonathan almost exactly six years ago... I was blown
away by his roster and he made me laugh and made a great cup of
tea...
"Thank God he went on to be my manager because he's f**king smashed
it. You've been amazing, Jonathan. It's an absolute honor to work
with someone who has so much calm and grace. You've managed to make
(an office) full of people who are s**t scared of you still love
you and you make them laugh. We're all really proud. Thanks for
being a great manager."
XL Recordings, the independent label which released Adele's
record-breaking album 21, also scooped four prizes at the ceremony,
including Record Company of the Year.
