The queens of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” came out to say "hieeeee!" to their fans and fellow queens at RuPaul’s DragCon, held at the L.A. Convention Center over Memorial Day weekend. Wigs were teased, heels were high, and faces were painted as queens sashayed across the floor. The Top Four of season 11 -- Silky Nutmeg Ganache, Brooke Lynn Hytes, A’Keria Davenport, and Yvie Oddly -- along with scores of other queens from past seasons, joined RuPaul himself for the pink ribbon cutting ceremony, where Mama Ru reminded us to spread the love!
In addition to greeting their fans, the queens also took the time to prove just how much Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve, and Talent they have. Adore Delano -- who was a contestant on Season 7 of "American Idol" as Danny Noriega -- took the stage Friday afternoon with a high energy performance that got us all in the mood to party! The queens then stomped the runway wearing some sickening looks, including All-Stars champ Trixie Mattel coming in on a coin-operated mechanical lipstick, Trinity the Tuck and her epic crown for being one of the winners of All-Stars Season 4, and an acrobatic Yvie Oddly.
While the queens greeted their fans, a number of other panels and kikis were going on. Various queens educated the children (literal children) with story time, while others shared their dating horror stories during the “Cupid, You Stupid” panel. Before his DJ set (did you know RuPaul also DJ'd?), he led a panel with the unsung heroes of “RuPaul’s Drag Race”: the Pit Crew!
The queens weren’t the only stars to shine (although they were the main ones). A number of celebrities joined the festivities, including Blac Chyna, Nikki Blonsky, Brandi Glanville, and the "Bachelorette" herself, Becca Kufrin.
in addition to the drag queens themselves, a number of vendors were on hand to fulfill every need a queen could ask for, from styled wigs and stick-on nail polish to hip pads and body glitter. So. Much. Glitter.
Our editor extraordinaire Katie Marzullo and I had a kiki with a handful of queens. We learned that Ms. Rajah O’Hara lives for the color purple, Eureka gives the best hugs, A'Keria is proud to be goofy, Scarlet Envy loves being compared to Brooke Shields, and Yvie has a lot of Denver pride! And if you’re looking for a new show to watch, just try Brooke Lynn’s (which is set in Toronto, of course!) “Kim’s Convenience”.
Check out more sickening looks below from Detox, Nina West, Plastique Tiara, and Season 3 winner Raja, and be sure to tune in to the Season 11 finale of "RuPaul's Drag Race" TONIGHT on VH1 to see who is crowned America's Next Drag Superstar!
