LeBron James needs no introduction.
We all know him as one of the most talented and admired professional basketball players of all time. But for the kids in his hometown, LeBron James is a hero for more reasons than one.
LeBron James is a pioneer for at-risk youth in Akron, Ohio. It’s now been nearly two years since the all-star athlete opened the I Promise School, a public elementary school in his hometown that aims to assist disadvantaged students with their studies.
We’ve already heard incredible things about the I Promise School since its opening (like free tuition, free uniforms, and test score improvement), but now we’ll get to hear stories from the students and teachers who continue to make the same promise every single day.
Quibi released a trailer on earlier this week for the LeBron James-produced documentary series on the life-changing school. The 2-minute preview shows us a glimpse into the lives of some of its students. The sneak peek is nothing less than inspiring, but it also shows exactly why LeBron stands by his legacy being about “more than a game” — a phrase that has stuck close to him throughout his entire career, and one he has shown undying commitment to.
Check out the trailer below!
The I Promise School has 240 students and is supported by the LeBron James Family Foundation. Every graduating student with at least a 3.0 grade point average will receive free tuition to the University of Akron, a scholarship that was developed between the LeBron James Family Foundation, the university, and JP Morgan Chase.
The docuseries is expected to air sometime next month, so make sure you tune in to see all the good LeBron is doing for his community!
