This album is an emotional rollercoaster full of upbeat songs and melancholic lyrics, and I&rsquo;m here to break down each song for you!</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <hr class="system-pagebreak" /> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size:26px;"><strong>1. &ldquo;Julien&rdquo;</strong></span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> Jepsen stated on social media that &ldquo;Julien&rdquo; is the song that taught her the heart and direction of the album, so it&rsquo;s very fitting that she opens with it. The song is about her fling with someone named (you guessed it) Julien and how she can&rsquo;t seem to get him out of her mind. It&rsquo;s one of those songs that makes you think of a Summer romance that fell apart come Fall but is filled with the nostalgia of that butterfly feeling. It&rsquo;s a slower dance song that makes you want to shake your head and smile rather than jump up and down and dance.&nbsp;</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <em>Favorite Lyric: &ldquo;I tried another to keep me satisfied / But all your colors are still dancing in my mind...&rdquo;</em></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <hr class="system-pagebreak" /> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size:26px;"><strong>2. &ldquo;No Drug Like Me&rdquo;</strong></span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> This song has a very similar vibe to &ldquo;Julien&rdquo; and in a story context shows us the relationship with her Julien. Behind the synthetic sounds, Jepsen discusses how you need to be open and vulnerable to love when it comes your way. It&rsquo;s a very light and fun Summer song about wanting to get closer with your crush. This is a song we can all relate to, but it is a very different vibe lyrically than the previous songs on this album. It&rsquo;s a blend of reggae, ska, and rock sounds and is a clear difference in tone from her earlier disco tracks on the album. This song is about jealousy and the red rage you feel when someone else goes after your crush.&nbsp;</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <em>Favorite Lyric: &ldquo;All I mean is I&rsquo;m going out of breath for the way that I feel when you hold me like that...&rdquo;&nbsp;</em></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <hr class="system-pagebreak" /> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size:26px;"><strong>8. &ldquo;Too Much&rdquo;</strong></span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> This might be my favorite song on the album because it is so relatable to me and my personality when I date. It&rsquo;s a synth-pop song all about being and feeling &ldquo;too much&rdquo; -- Dancing too much, drinking too much, and, when it comes to dating, loving too much. Jepsen teams up with the band Electric Guest to bring us a song about a casual relationship becoming more. It explains how once she didn&rsquo;t care about the relationship but now it&rsquo;s the only thing on her mind.&nbsp;</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <em>Favorite Lyric: &ldquo;Now I got ya and I only think of you...&rdquo;</em></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <hr class="system-pagebreak" /> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size:26px;"><strong>12. &ldquo;Right Words Wrong Time.&rdquo;</strong></span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> This is the song you will dedicate to a lover when you&rsquo;ve finally had enough. It has a repeating sound of snapping and synth-pop and showcases Jepsen&rsquo;s power to walk away from a relationship that no longer serves her. She expresses her sacrifices to attain love but how, in the end, it wasn&rsquo;t worth it. Jepsen talks about those moments in a relationship where you know it should be over, but you still accept its lies because you want to have love. It&rsquo;s a moment I know I have experienced all too well, so the rollercoaster of upbeat and downbeat sounds for this track makes sense for me.&nbsp;</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <em>Favorite Lyric: &ldquo;And I&rsquo;m so used to the lie / And you&rsquo;re so down to deny...&rdquo;</em></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <hr class="system-pagebreak" /> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size:26px;"><strong>14. &ldquo;For Sure&rdquo;</strong></span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> Track 12 brought you snapping noises, and in this one, Jepsen brings out the claps. This song is very different than previous songs on the album. It has a drumming sound that reminds me of the soundtrack of <strong>James Cameron</strong>&rsquo;s movie <em>Avatar</em> and has very subtle jungle sounds layered underneath her vocals. The song is about the end of a relationship and wanting to know if her suspicions were correct. It is the most receptive song on the album with the least amount of lyrics.</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <em>Favorite Lyric: &ldquo;I&rsquo;ve been thinking we were over / Got to know for sure...&rdquo;</em></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <hr class="system-pagebreak" /> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size:26px;"><strong>15. &ldquo;Party For One&rdquo;&nbsp;</strong></span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> The final song on the album is the most dancey of them all. It&rsquo;s a power anthem about moving on from a relationship and learning to be independent. I would argue and say that it is the poppiest sounding song on the entire album and the one that would be considered the most dance-worthy. It is the perfect song to end her journey with &ldquo;Julien&rdquo; or whoever captured her heart and broke it.
