"The Walking Dead" Star Christian Serratos Tapped For Lead in Netflix's Selena Bio-Series!
Netflix’s upcoming “Selena: The Series”, a biopic television show about the late Selena Quintanilla, has finally found its lead! The singer will be played by Christian Serratos, who is most well-known for portraying Rosita Espinosa on AMC's “The Walking Dead” since the show’s 4th season. Or, if you’re like me, you most remember Serratos as Suzie Crabgrass in Nickelodeon’s “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide”! She was Ned’s crush until he realized that Moze was the one for him all along! She also played Bella’s school friend Angela in the Twilight Saga.
The show will be a scripted drama about the Tejano music star’s life, and it will be led by writer/executive producer Moisés Zamora, who has also written episodes on “Star” and “American Crime”. He is Mexican-American, an award-winning writer, creator of his own show, and only 25 years old!
Selena Quintanilla rose to stardom at a young age and quickly became one of music’s biggest Latino artists. A few of her hit songs are “Como la Flor”, “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom”, and “Dreaming of You”. In 1995, at the age of 23, Selena was shot and killed by Yolanda Saldívar, a woman who worked for her. Saldívar is currently serving a life sentence for the crime.
The show's executive producers include Selena's father and sister, Abraham Quintanilla Jr. and Suzette Quintanilla, and the family attorney, Simran A. Singh. It will focus on the rise of her career and how she became the icon she is remembered as today. Before Serratos, Jennifer Lopez portrayed the singer in the 1997 film Selena, to great acclaim. It will be interesting to see Serratos’s take on the role, and we can’t wait to watch the upcoming series!
