While many know Pamela Anderson from various tabloid headlines, which have been thrust back into the spotlight thanks to Hulu's new "Pam & Tommy" miniseries, we feel we need to remind people that there is a side to her that doesn't get nearly enough attention as it should. Pam has done so many positive things over the course of her career that have often been overlooked. Not only is she an activist but she raised two boys more or less on her own all while having a crazy successful career. Here is everything you should know about the real Pamela Anderson!
Pamela is an activist and started her own non-profit called The Pamela Anderson Foundation. On the foundation’s website, it states that their primary focus is to “support organizations and individuals that stand on the front lines in the protection of human, animal, and environmental rights. By funding the efforts of those who inform and defend the planet and all who live within it, the Pamela Anderson Foundation is an agent of change and an advocate for justice.” The foundation is an absolute success with 25 years of connecting resources under its belt.
Pamela’s activism doesn’t stop with just her foundation; she is also an honorary director of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, also known as PETA. She has done ad campaigns with them encouraging people to go vegan (Pamela herself is vegan). One ad in particular that Pam did with PETA shows the similarities between humans and animals and that we all have the same parts.
In 2012, Young Hollywood interviewed Pamela at The Gentle Barn where she discussed her passion for animal activism and how she got involved with PETA, “When I was on 'Baywatch', I contacted PETA and said, 'You probably don’t know me but I’m on a silly show called "Baywatch" and I’m sick of talking about my boyfriends and my boobs. I do a lot of interviews so how can I spread the word about animal rights or animal issues?' So now I’ve done it for 15 years all over the world.”
Pam doesn’t just do ads and interviews to spread awareness about animals -- she volunteers as well, doing whatever they need her to do, even if it means cleaning up poop. She told us, “When I go to the California Wildlife Center, though, I do clean up a lot of poop. Bird poop, that’s what I do, I clean out the cages, and feed little hummingbirds.” You can really tell how passionate Pamela is about animals by the fact that she is willing to go that extra mile for them. What an icon!
Pamela Anderson is an icon for many reasons, but everyone must not forget all the great work she’s done for the community and still continues to do. It’s amazing and inspiring that she makes activism a priority with her busy schedule, proving we can all make some time to do some good! Currently, Pam is selling bags that are vegan made with apple skin, all of which are available on her foundation's website!
