Midsommar is
Ari Aster’s much-anticipated follow-up to his
first film, Hereditary, which was an amazing success. Just
like Peele, Aster had a lot of pressure to deliver another
unbelievable story, and Midsommar is it. The story is
about a grad student, Dani (Florence Pugh), her
boyfriend Christian (Jack Reynor), and two of his
friends, who go to Sweden for a special festival that only takes
place every 90 years, and, well, you can imagine what happens...
While I’d say Midsommar is a horror film, just like
Hereditary, and deals with some of the same themes of
grief and family, visually it’s completely different, colorful and
bright where Hereditary was dark and eerie. Aster has made
another unsettling and emotional film, though it’s honestly worth
seeing solely for how beautiful it is. If you can handle horror,
you definitely need to see this.
