With a name like The Album, there’s a heavy promise attached to the upcoming Jonas Brothers album to be one of their best. Set to come out on May 12 (it was moved back from the initial May 5 release), The Album is set to be one of the most anticipated new releases of the Spring. The album was first announced in late-February 2020, but no further information came out until 2022 when the band released the album cover. In January of this year, it was then titled The Album, revealed right as the Jonas Brothers earned their spot on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. A momentous occasion for what’s expected to be a momentous new record, the Jonas Brothers have already released 2 singles for it: “Wings”, accompanied by a video, and, more recently, “Waffle House”. The album is said to have major '70s influences — perhaps evident by the cover, where the brothers wear '70s-inspired outfits in the desert — and is set to come out through Republic Records.
“Wings” is the first single off of The Album and features production from Bellion, a major collaborator for this project, as well as The Monsters and the Strangerz, Nappi, TenRoc, and The Diner. It’s a falsetto-driven track undercut by piano and a groovy bassline, which combines pop with some funk elements. It is, at heart, a sweet and breezy love song, and the best part may be the accompanying video, which features Haley Lu Richardson from "The White Lotus" as the star. The video shows some girl friends in a vintage-looking hotel, wearing enviable '70s outfits -- it watches as they sing, dance, and have fun. The Jonas Brothers don’t even appear until the end, but “Wings” is, then again, a feel-good anthem for the girlies.
“Waffle House” does something more electronic, and gives the energy of a dance song, though it’s really about family love and coming through hard times to figure things out. It’s an interesting release as Nick and Joe start their families, and, given that their whole careers were founded upon being brothers, they have a unique perspective on family bonds. Don’t let the bright and boppy sounds fool you — there’s deeper things going on in “Waffle House”, which is also getting a bonus alternate version in The Album.
The Album has 12 planned tracks and two bonuses, all of which are going to make a splash. Make sure to listen to it on May 12, and check out tickets for their upcoming Summer tour!
