On August 1, MTV celebrated its 40th anniversary. The network originally became famous for their music videos, being the first channel solely dedicated to music. So, obviously part of their 40th Anniversary celebration falls in line with their original legacy: revamping the iconic "Moonman" logo into a new aesthetic, for example. MTV has their own TikTok account, but MTV's legacy goes beyond their current reruns of "Ridiculousness" and their 40th Anniversary promo, which is mostly reaching the generations who grew up watching MTV in real-time. So, how is the TikTok generation celebrating the milestone? Reviving the iconic MTV shows that fit right in line with what all of us Gen-Z wants to see: '90s grunge and Y2K aesthetics, perfect TikTok audio soundbytes, and the most Instagrammable screenshots. I can't scroll 5 seconds on my FYP or IG feed without seeing a "Daria" reference. Which is fine by me! "Daria" has been giving the ultimate melancholy, grunge aesthetic, cool girl vibe since 1997.
Have you seen the most viral TikTok audio using a clip from "Daria"? There are thousands of videos under the sound, and like every single one gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling.

That's just one of the MTV original revivals hitting my feed hard in the last couple of weeks. Another one of my obsessions is the '90s show "Downtown", which I only found out about through TikTok. There is an entire dedicated account to "Downtown", which follows a group of teens and 20-somethings living in NYC in the '90s, with the same classic aesthetic as "Daria" and other cult MTV classics.
Oh, and this TikTok trend? Originally from MTV's "Clone High".

The '90s and Y2K vibes are back in full force, and funny TV will never go out of style, so celebrate MTV's 40th b-day by binge-watching all of MTV's iconic animated shows that TikTok has not let us forget!
