“Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger, can I take your orrrrrder?”
The time has come to open up the floodgates of childhood nostalgia. It’s been more than 20 years since we heard Kel Mitchell repeat the iconic phrase as the clueless yet well-meaning burger slinger at our favorite fictional fast-food chain, Good Burger, first from the 1990s sketch-comedy show "All That" and then later in the 1997 film Good Burger. If you find yourself feeling sentimental, don’t worry; the Good Burger legacy is far from over. In fact, the franchise is back in the most 2019 way possible: a pop-up restaurant in West Hollywood.
“The '90s is back in a big, new way and for a whole new generation,” said Mitchell. On Saturday, June 15, Nickelodeon’s reimagined "All That" show revival debuted, featuring an all new cast, not to mention the JoBros. The recent return of the youth-led sketch comedy series, that originally ran from 1994 to 2005, has sparked a lot of attention. And to celebrate the reboot, Nickelodeon has teamed up with the the same guys who originated the "Saved by the Bell" pop-up, Saved by the Max, to bring the first ever real-life Good Burger pop-up to West Hollywood. And it opens today!
What makes the upcoming debut so exciting is that it was made by fans for fans. When you buy your $30 ticket, you’re not just buying a meal, you’re buying an experience. “For our '90s fans who love 'All That', they get to come in here and have a real experience. That’s what we wanted. You know you come in and it’s like, ‘Hey I’m really at Good Burger,' which is really cool,” said Mitchell. The animated pop-up looks like an attraction that belongs at the Universal Studios theme park. With its vibrant decorations and special features, you are sure to have a fun time and a picture to take home too! As an added bonus, there’ll be appearances from Good Burger’s O.G. employees, from both the original lineup and the show’s recent reboot.
As opposed to a full-service restaurant or even a traditional fast-food joint, the actual Good Burger pop-up is streamlined for a more casual vibe. Rather than being seated by the hostess or beelining straight for the cashier to order, customers will buy tickets at the front door, where they will likely hear Mitchell’s classic line. One ticket is credit for the customer’s choice of an entree, a side item, and a commemorative paper hat just like Ed’s! While customers wait for their Good Meal, they can enjoy taking pictures with the pop-up’s multitudes of themed props and backdrops.
Let’s talk food. Expect better than your typical fast-food, because the team brought in Eggslut founder and celebrity chef Alvin Cailan to consult and create the menu. He’ll be in the kitchen the entire first week, whipping up burgers, salads, and sides, so check him out if you’re able to. Cailan noted that everything will be cooked to order, making it as chef-driven and fresh as possible. He has put together a menu for Good Burger that includes, of course, the Good Burger (which comes in single, double, and triple), Good Chunks (which are chicken tenders with Ed’s sauce), the Good Chicken Sandwich, plus fries, onion rings, salads, and milkshakes. For customer convenience, all items on the menu also have a gluten-free option. There’s also à la carte items, including orange, boozy cocktails, and deserts.
Your Good Burger ticket reserves you a full 90-minute experience inside the restaurant, so once you’ve finished your meal, take some time to check out their old-school arcade room. They’ve got N64, arcade cabinets, foosball, and tabletop group games such as Jenga. And BTW, they’re all on free-play mode.
The Good Burger pop-up experience debuts today, Wednesday, July 10, in the West Hollywood Gateway shopping center at 7100 Santa Monica Blvd, and it is expected to be open for the next 6 months. Tickets are on sale now online. If you can’t physically make it to the restaurant, you can order from the menu on Postmates. For the week of July 29, all Good Burger orders on Postmates will receive free delivery!
