Television’s favorite fixer, A-list actress, equality advocate, and universal badass…. Kerry Washington.
This is for all of our loyal gladiators out there who are approaching Year Two of withdrawals from the legendary Olivia Pope, with no way to get your fix other than playing throwback episodes of "Scandal" through streaming. And yes, Netflix, we’re still watching.
But we do have a proposal, friends. With the ABC drama in our rear-view, it’s about time to put some effort into moving on. And the queen herself is here to help us.
Sure, Olivia Pope may have turned her back on her friends and family one by one toward the end of the series, but she’s not leaving us behind — at least not totally.
The longtime actress has made her return to television on Hulu’s "Little Fires Everywhere". We’re only four episodes in, but what’s clear so far is that her new character is far from Miss Pope... but we’re not complaining. The actress stars alongside Reese Witherspoon and that’s enough consolation for us. We call it the heavenly Hulu match we never saw coming.
And we’ve recently found out it could’ve happened much sooner -- say, 25 years ago? Both auditioned for the iconic coming-of-age film Clueless back in the '90s. Of course they didn’t book the roles, but let’s just imagine for a second. Much love to Alicia Silverstone and Stacey Dash, but Reese and Kerry as Cher and Dionne?!
We’re simply shook to our cores at the thought.
But we’re used to that feeling when it comes to the 43-year-old. Who says she needs to be working alongside the President in Washington to make a difference?
In case you hadn’t heard, the actress is giving her best off-screen to help Americans better understand the spread of COVID-19. She hosted a virtual interview with the Surgeon General of California, Dr. Nadine Burke, to answer questions that anyone might have surrounding the virus and its impact on communities across the country.
But if we could ask Kerry Washington just one question of our own, it would be this: what are the chances that Olivia Pope could come back and fix this pandemic?
Oh how we wish it were that easy…
