A Beautiful Day In My Neighborhood
Tom Hanks has played some genuinely remarkable characters in his time, but when he plays real people in a film, it really is the stuff of legends. From Sully to Walt Disney, I firmly believe there is not a role this man cannot simply dominate. And in the trailer for the film A Beautiful Day In My Neighborhood, that sentiment is proven. Hanks zips up his red sweater to bring the iconic Mr. Rogers to life. The story here centers on Mathew Rhys’s cynical journalist character interviewing Rogers, only to have his cold heart melted by Roger’s unparalleled niceness. But the thing to remember here is that Hanks isn’t trying to do a dead-on impersonation of the memorable TV personality. Instead, the Academy Award-winning actor is bringing audiences his unique interpretation of the real-life figure. And it just seems crazy enough to work. Helmed by Can You Ever Forgive Me? director Marielle Heller, this one has all the fixings to be a legit contender come Awards Season. Could a third Oscar be in Hanks's future? A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood will open in theaters November 22, 2019.
