Murphy has 4 TV series in the works, including “The Politician”, “Ratched”, “Hollywood”, and one other that is yet to be announced.
"The Politician"
While the upcoming dark comedy "The Politician" hails from FX Networks, it will be exclusively available on Netflix when it premieres on September 27. When Murphy left his old stomping grounds at Fox Entertainment Group last year, he brought the budding project with him. "The Politician" will star American actor Ben Platt, who plays a wealthy high school student from Santa Barbara, CA. The plot follows Platt’s character, Payton Hobart, as he follows his lifelong dream to become President of the United States, but if he wants to become POTUS, he’s got to stay on his path to success. First, he must navigate the treacherous political landscape of Saint Sebastian High School. Second, he must be elected Student Body President. And lastly, he must secure his spot at Harvard University. Together we will see if Payton has what it takes to outsmart his ruthless classmates without sacrificing his own morality. The series also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Lange, Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, Bob Balaban, David Corenswet, Julia Schlaepfer, Laura Dreyfuss, Theo Germaine, Rahne Jones, and Benjamin Barrett. Murphy will serve as writer, showrunner, and executive producer of the one-hour comedy with assistance from his frequent collaborators, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan.
"Ratched"
Murphy is gearing up to create a new twist for the classic novel and film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in this next series. His upcoming project, "Ratched", will serve the franchise as a prequel, following a young nurse working in a mental institution. Played by Sarah Paulson, we will watch the trials and tribulations that unfold as notorious nurse Mildred Ratched becomes a downright monster to her patients. The series will also star Judy Davis, Cynthia Nixon, Sharon Stone, Corey Stoll, Jon Jon Briones, Charlie Carver, Harriet Harris, Hunter Parrish, Amanda Plummer, Finn Wittrock, and Rosanna Arquette. Similar to "The Politician", "Ratched" was originally a Fox 21 Television Studios property that was picked up by Netflix following Murphy’s addition to the team. Murphy will be working as co-executive producer in the series along with Michael Douglas, who is well known for buying the film rights to Ken Kesey's original novel & play and co-producing the 1975 Milos Forman-directed film adaptation. Written by Evan Romansky, "Ratched" is set to premiere in 2020.
"Hollywood"
While not much in the way of details has been revealed about this upcoming Murphy series, the "Hollywood" project was announced in February via Murphy’s Instagram. He wrote, “A love letter to the Golden Age of Tinseltown, this straight-to-series production will be my third show for Netflix and I couldn’t be more excited or proud about the work we are doing together. More to come…” The plot is being kept under wraps, as well as the cast and premiere date. All we know for certain is that the series was co-created by Murphy and Ian Brennan and that "Pose" co-executive producer, writer, and director Janet Mock, who has signed her own overall deal with Netflix, will execute produce and direct the show.
