And then, the moment that made everyone McFreaking lose it in Hall D23… the screen goes to black momentarily before smashing us in the face with a close-up of a rather fierce-looking Rey, cloaked in a black hood, and then we pull out to see her basically in Kylo Ren cosplay as she flips open a DOUBLE-BLADED RED LIGHTSABER!!! Hello, 9-1-1, I’d like to request an ambulance!!! Let’s be honest, we’ve all been waiting for this; the only thing surprising about it (at least to me) is that it’s happening in this movie instead of The Last Jedi. Tons of speculation abounds as to what’s actually happening here – some believe it’s just a vision, likely propagated by Palpatine (the reason being because it’s unlikely Rey would have enough dark energy inside her to “bleed” a Kyber crystal to create a Dark Sider’s signature red lightsaber), while others think she is being “possessed” by Palpatine (see the Sith-3PO spec above). She could even simply just be projecting a dark image of herself to Kylo Ren in order to trap him. Whatever it is, it’s going to be amazing. I have been WAITING for a damn double-bladed saber!!!
