8. “Mad Men”
In case you don’t know much about “Mad Men”, it’s set in the 1960s and follows the lives of advertising professionals in New York City. The star of the show is Jon Hamm’s Don Draper, a sort of antihero who messes up his life through lying and cheating and is trying to find some semblance of relief.
In the final moments of the last episode, we see Don Draper at a fancy, peaceful retreat, and then the episode ends with the famous Coca-Cola “Hilltop” ad from 1971 (probably one of the most successful ad campaigns of all time). And that’s it. We are left to wonder what that means. Did Draper just go back to work and his bad habits, or did he actually find the answers and peace he was looking for? Does the ending suggest that HE came up with the mega-successful Coca-Cola ad after finding spirtual enlightenment? It’s up to you how you want to interpret it, which I think is a great way to end such a long-running show like “Mad Men”.
