Disney’s annual D23 conference held its biggest event of the year this past weekend, with big stars and even bigger announcements! D23 was packed full of reveals and updates for Star Wars, Marvel, and Disney fans alike. The event marked the return of lots of familiar faces and introduced some new ones too! Here are all the announcements, releases, productions, and teasers revealed at D23!
SEQUELS!
Moana 2
A sequel to the 2016 princess movie, Moana, was announced along with the new official trailer. The film is set 3 years after the first one and features the same beloved cast including Dwayne Johnson and Auli'i Cravalho. Disney also announced a live-action version of the film is already under production and can be expected in a couple years.
Incredibles 3
The third Incredibles movie is currently in production with Disney. Not much is known about the project just yet, but it's an exciting announcement since the long awaited return of the childhood superhero favorite characters in 2018.
Toy Story 5
Shown in the brief teaser, Woody and the gang are back for the newest film in the Toy Story franchise. The film follows the iconic group of characters as they take on the tech age.
Frozen 3
One of the furthest projects, set to come out in 2027, not much is known just yet aside from some concept artwork. As Disney is so good at keeping their projects under wraps, the film is mostly a secret as of right now.
Zootopia 2
Zootopia 2 is currently in production and expected to release in November of next year. The project doesn’t have a teaser or a trailer to share just yet, but Disney did release some concept art and cast! The film already has new voices, including Ke Huy Quan, who’s signed to the film!
Avatar: Fire and Ash
With the announcement of Avatar 3 in the headlines since The Way of Water, creator James Cameron dropped the official title at D23: Avatar: Fire and Ash, set to be in theaters December 19, 2025.
Freakier Friday
The long-awaited Freaky Friday sequel, which we’ve already seen the behind the scenes pics from thanks to Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Cutris, had its official name released at D23. Freakier Friday was announced with a released date in 2025.
Tron: Ares
Not only was the newest Tron movie announced, but a star-studded cast too! The latest film in the franchise is set to release in 2025 starring Evan Peters, Jared Leto, and Gillian Anderson.
LIVE-ACTION!
Snow White
Rachel Ziegler and her highly-anticipated role as Snow White is finally making it to the big screen. A teaser dropped at the event as well as a release date on March 21 of next year.
Lilo & Stitch
A new live-action film announced at D23 was Lilo & Stitch! Expected to release the summer of next year, the teaser announcement already gives audiences a look into the adorable and sometimes crazy behavior of the beloved Experiment 626, AKA Stitch.
Mufasa: The Lion King
After the announcement was made back in 2022, the official trailer for Mufasa was dropped over the weekend. Featuring the origins of Simba's father, King Mufasa, the film shares new stars in the already packed cast of the original live action movie, including Seth Rogen, Donald Glover, and Blue Ivy Carter. The movie will be in theaters December 20th of this year!
NEW SEASONS & SERIES!
"Star Wars: Skeleton Crew"
A new installment in the Star Wars realm, "Skeleton Crew" will be ready for streaming on Disney+ this year! With a release date on December 20th, two episodes will be released as the series premiere! The series stars Kerry Condon and Jude Law and will feature new and previously unexplored realms of a Galaxy Far Far Away.
"Agatha All Along"
A new trailer was released for the newest Marvel series, the "WandaVision" spinoff "Agatha All Along" starring Kathryn Hahn. The announcement also came with a musical performance from the cast. The series will premiere on September 18th of this year.
"Andor" Season 2
"Andor", the Rogue One prequel series starring Diego Luna, has officially gotten a second season. With a release date in 2025, this second season has not yet received a teaser or a trailer just yet, but we do know Ben Mendelsohn will return as Director Krennic as well as the droid K-2SO and the season will take place over a period of 4 years!
"Percy Jackson and the Olympians" Season 2
Shortly after its first season premiered last year, "Percy Jackson and The Olympians" was already in production on its second season. The newest installment of episodes is expected next year!
"Dream Productions"
Reportedly a spinoff of the Inside Out movies, "Dream Productions" follows the production studio behind Riley’s dreams. The series has a release date in 2025 and will be available on Disney+.
"Ironheart"
A project from Marvel, the series follows a young genius, Riri Williams (who we first met in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), who creates an iron suit, much like that of Iron Man’s. Starring Dominique Thorne and Anthony Ramos, the limited series has a release date in 2025.
"Win or Lose"
"Win or Lose" is Pixar’s first ever original series. Available for streaming on December 6th, the series follows a middle school football team. The series is taking on an original approach to the storytelling, having each episode be from a different character's perspective.
"Daredevil: Born Again"
Daredevil fans, rejoice! Serving as a continuation to the already popular Netflix series, this Daredevil project reunites the three main stars of the original series, Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, and Elden Henson. This marks the third Marvel series announced at D23.
NEW ORIGINAL FILMS!
Monster Jam
Monster Jam is a project lead by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson but does not have many details other than its source inspiration -- a monster truck driving show.
Elio
Elio is a new original film from the Pixar family! A little look into the film suggests a trip to the outer world and a release in the summer of next year.
Hoppers
Not much is known about this film announcement, though from its concept art, it’ll be a fun and wild movie! The cast consists of Jon Hamm, Bobby Moynihan, and Piper Curda. It doesn’t have an exact release date yet but can be expected in the Spring of 2026.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps
Marvel is hoping third time's a charm as it released a teaser trailer for the third big screen version of the hero group, The Fantastic Four, in 20 years. The newest film stars Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Vanessa Kirby, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Unfortunately, the teaser trailer was an exclusive clip, only shown to the audiences who were there in person at D23.
