5. Frank Ocean
I first heard Frank Ocean’s music when I was coming out and strongly related to his lyrics in his debut album Channel Orange. It was like he understood my struggles trying to come out, especially with his song “Bad Religion”, because, at the time, I was battling with my faith and my identity. He then released an open letter coming out as bisexual, which smashed the glass ceiling LGBTQ+ members have in the world of hip-hop. He then went on to win a Grammy for Channel Orange and later released a second album independently titled Blonde. Ocean is a singer, songwriter, rapper, producer, and photographer. He has excellent vocal range and has paved the way for other LGBTQ+ artists to make their name in music and hip-hop.
