NBCUniversal is officially entering the streaming wars, and with a July release date, it seems they will be the last big dog to join the fight, for now. With heavy-hitters like Disney, Amazon, Netflix, Apple, and HBO getting a decent head start, Peacock will have to make up a lot of ground fast if it wants a chance to become the top choice to enjoy great content. Luckily, they have some solid original series lined up to give them a much-needed edge over the competition!
1. "Angelyne"
The story of Los Angeles Icon Angelyne is brought to life in this eye-opening Peacock original series. Starring Golden Globe nominee Emmy Rossum as the titular character, this account will look into the rise of the famous Billboard queen of the ‘80s. Her alluring story and unique path to fame will undoubtedly be an exciting affair to see on screen. Also featured in the series is Emmy winner Martin Freeman.
2. "Brave New World"
"Brave New World" is an upcoming sci-fi dystopian drama set to premiere July 15th exclusively on the NBCUniversal-owned streaming service. The series is a live-action adaptation of the 1932 novel of the same name written by author Aldous Houxley (which you may or may not have read in high school). Its intriguing narrative imagines a utopian society that has prohibited monogamy, privacy, money, family, and even history, resulting in a peaceful existence. Starring in the Peacock original will be Solo: A Star Wars Story star Alden Ehrenreich, as well as Demi Moore and Hannah John-Kamen.
3. "Saved By The Bell" Reboot
"Saved By The Bell" is back in the form of a highly-anticipated sequel series. This Peacock original will feature some of the main characters from the original, including Mario Lopez’s A.C Slater, Elizabeth Berkeley’s Jessie, Mark-Paul Gosselaar’s Zack, and Tiffani Thiessen’s Kelly. This time around, the sitcom will focus on a new group of Bayside High students, making this a must-see for fans both old and new to the franchise.
4. "A.P. Bio"
"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"'s Glenn Howerton stars as Jack Griffin, a Harvard philosophy professor. After he loses his job, the disgruntled, egotistical, self-proclaimed genius is forced to move into his mother’s house and, worst of all, teach A.P. Bio at the local high school. The series was thought to be canceled after its second season but ended up being revived as a Peacock exclusive. The hilarious comedy series also stars Aparna Brielle, Patton Oswalt, and Paula Pell.
5. "MacGruber" Series
Will Forte is back as MacGruber, the beloved "SNL" character that spawned his own feature film, but this time it's on the small screen as a Peacock original series. The story takes place after America’s ultimate hero has been rotting in prison for over a decade. Upon his release, he is given a mission to save the world from a mysterious villain from his past. The MacGruber movie director Jorma Taccone hopes to get the rest of the original cast back for the series.
Peacock is set to launch on July 15!
