4. Asukal
Philippines-born Rachel Undheim’s electro-pop persona Asukal means “sugar” in Tagalog, and her music is equally as much of a confection as the name she gave herself. Her introspective, yearning lyrics are nestled in catchy sampling and digital-age funk. Though heartbreak and pain are the DNA she weaves into her music, it’s far from painful to listen to her saccharine beats.
