Ava Duvernay
Ava DuVernay has made herself a powerhouse within the movie industry. After directing Selma, a film about Martin Luther King Jr., DuVernay’s name has been heard far and wide. She went on to direct multiple episodes of the OWN Network hit "Queen Sugar" and the Oscar-nominated documentary 13th. This year, when her mini-series "When They See Us" debuted on Netflix, DuVernay cemented her spot at the top of film and television history. The gut-wrenching series based on the true story of the Central Park Five touched hearts and minds across the globe. DuVernay has many different projects on the way, each more exciting than the last. It’s safe to say that her distinct vision and advocacy for minorities will take her even farther.
