4. Big Momma’s House
Dedicated to his profession, FBI agent Malcolm Turner (Martin Lawrence) would seemingly do anything to be a committed member of his team. Anything, you ask? Absolutely, yes! After learning the news that a dangerous robbery criminal named Lester Vesco (Terrence Howard) has escaped from prison, Turner is tasked with keeping an eye on Sherry Pierce (Nia Long), the ex-girlfriend and possible robbery accomplice of Vesco, along with her son Trent (Jascha Washington).
Not willing to back down from a challenge, Malcolm disguises as Sherry’s grandmother Hattie Mae Pierce (Ella Mitchell), otherwise known as Big Momma. Now with Sherry and Trent under his eye, the real test begins for the hard-nosed FBI agent, which is acting and perfecting the role of Big Momma! As it turns out, the case comes with more than he bargained for! What’s worse is that Malcolm himself is found by Sherry, thus needing to label himself as a handyman. And to top it off, the man with two characters finds himself falling for Sherry! It’s an all-out sticky mess during this case!
The film’s hilarious plotline resulted in two succeeding films starring Martin Lawrence, released in 2006 and 2011.
Other terrific films such as Charlie’s Angels, Next Friday, and What Women Want were released in this year as well!
