Zayn Malik has cancelled an upcoming concert in Dubai as he continues to battle anxiety.
The former One Direction star pulled out of the Capital FM Summertime Ball in London in June (16) because he felt uneasy about performing live solo, and he has now axed another show for the same reason.
Zayn was due to perform in the United Arab Emirates on 7 October (16) but the organisers at 117Live issued a press release on Tuesday (06Sep16) in which Zayn revealed he has been trying to combat the condition but doesn't feel performance ready yet.
“I have been working over the last three months to overcome my extreme anxiety around major live solo performances,” he said. “I feel I am making progress but I have today acknowledged that I do not feel sufficiently confident to move forward with the planned show in Dubai in October.”
Thomas Ovesen, CEO of 117Live, added, “Whilst disappointed not to be hosting the planned Oct 7 Dubai concert, we appreciate Zayn’s honest apologies and wish him all the best for the future."
Zayn isn't the only singer who has been battling anxiety - Fifth Harmony star Camila Cabello left the group's show mid-way through the set in St. Louis Missouri on Friday (02Sep16) and she later apologised to fans on Snapchat revealing the condition left her unable to continue. She returned to the stage on Sunday (04Sep16) in Dallas, Texas.
Selena Gomez is also taking an indefinite break from her tour because she has been suffering from anxiety, panic attacks and depression, which are all side effects of lupus disease.
When Zayn cancelled his Summertime Ball slot, he wrote on Instagram, "Unfortunately, my anxiety that has haunted me throughout the last few months around live performances has gotten the better of me…with the magnitude of the event, I have suffered the worst anxiety of my career."
