Former American Idol singer Scott Macintyre has become a father, a year after undergoing a kidney transplant.
The singer, who competed on season eight of the hit U.S. talent show, and his wife Christina welcomed a son named Christian Scott MacIntyre on 21 September (16) in Franklin, Tennessee, his representative confirms to People.com.
The child is the couple's first, and is considered a miracle for Scott, who was born blind.
He had previously written off plans for fatherhood after struggling with kidney failure for the second time in his life, following a kidney transplant at the age of 22.
However, doctors found a suitable match in June, 2015 and he subsequently underwent a successful transplant.
Scott, 31, tells People.com, "I am so grateful to my kidney donor for giving me my health back and allowing us to create this new life. Being a dad is already so rewarding, and I am treasuring this special time with Christina and our son."
The new mom adds, "I have always wanted to be a mom, and Christian is a beautiful gift. He is a calm and easygoing little guy just like his dad!"
