Shia Labeouf slashed his face with a knife and had a tooth removed to make his performance in World War II movie Fury more authentic.
The Transformers actor shocked his co-stars on the set when he used a real blade to cut his face because he wasn't happy with the prosthetic gashes which were applied by make-up artists.
LaBeouf's co-star Logan Lerman tells Britain's GQ magazine, "We were in make-up and they were putting cuts on Shia and I said, 'Yeah, yeah, it looks good.' And Shia was like, 'No, it doesn't look real.' Then he walks out into the hallway and says, 'Hey man, wanna see something fun? Check this out...' and he takes out a knife and cuts his face. And for the whole movie he kept opening these cuts on his face. That's all real."
LaBeouf was spotted with a missing tooth earlier this year (14), sparking reports he had it extracted for a movie role, and Lerman has now confirmed the actor underwent the extreme dental procedure to get into character, adding, "He didn't do it himself, he did go to a dentist and asked them to pull his tooth out but yeah, what an odd request."
Fury, which also stars Brad Pitt and Clint Eastwood's son, Scott, is due for release later this month (Oct14).
