Rising hip-hop star Stefflon Don has brushed off Nicki Minaj comparisons.
Raised in the Netherlands and London, the rapper is making waves in the music scene after dropping single Hurtin' Me featuring French Montana and making an appearance on DJ Jax Jones and Demi Lovato's song Instruction.
While Stefflon, real name Stephanie Allen, has been touted as the U.K.'s answer to Super Bass hitmaker Nicki, the rapper is determined to craft her own identity.
"People have tried to make comparisons but there isn't really anyone that compares (to me)," she told Notion magazine. "Everyone has musical influences but I'm still me."
The Hurtin' Me video premiered on 1 September (17) and quickly racked up over ten million views and 90,000 likes on YouTube. And while Stefflon is yet to release an album, she is certain that her background and musical influences set her apart from the rest.
"There's nothing wrong with comparisons but as long as people know it's not a copying thing. Sometimes people like to dim your personality or want you to be like everybody else, but in the same breath they want you to be you," the star added.
