Rihanna won’t be starring alongside Adam Driver in Annette, contrary to reports.
It was reported earlier this week (beg13Mar17) that the singer and part-time actress had been cast opposite Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Adam in the music drama, the first English-language movie from French director Leos Carax.
Rihanna’s representatives have now refuted the story, telling Pitchfork that the casting news published in Variety was incorrect.
However, Rihanna’s name still appears on the IMDb page for Annette, underneath Adam’s.
The tale is about a widowed stand-up comedian who, after the death of his opera singer wife, discovers his toddler daughter has a surprising gift. Rooney Mara was also slated to star in the movie, but had to pull out because of commitments to other projects, and executives at Amazon Studios are on the hunt for a new lead. Filming is due to begin later this spring (17).
Rihanna’s being kept busy with plenty of other acting jobs at the moment, including filming her biggest movie to date, Ocean’s Eight. Co-starring Oscar winners Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway and Sandra Bullock, the female-led film is a reboot of the Ocean’s franchise, first made famous by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr. in 1960, and then George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon in 2001.
Diamonds singer Rihanna can also be seen in sci-fi action adventure Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, due for release in July (17), opposite Cara Delevingne, John Goodman and Ethan Hawke, and in a recurring role in TV series Bates Motel, in which she plays Marion Crane, the iconic character played by Janet Leigh in Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 horror Psycho.
