The future's looking bright for Rihanna - she has teamed up with Dior's designers to create a new sunglasses collection.
The singer has helped craft a range of futuristic eyewear as part of her Dior brand ambassador deal.
The Rihanna shades will be sold exclusively at Dior stores beginning in early June (16).
One frame will come with six color variations, while a deluxe 24-karat gold-plated version will retail for $1,940 (GBP1,300).
The new eyewear collection hits the streets a year after Rihanna and Dior teamed up for the Secret Garden IV campaign, which featured the star in Dior sunglasses, carrying the brand’s bags and wearing items from the Esprit Dior collection.
The ads and an accompanying short film were shot in Versailles, France.
The sunglasses have given Rihanna an edge over Dior's other ambassadors, like Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman, and Jennifer Lawrence, as she becomes the first to actually design something for the high-fashion label.
According to WWD.com, she visited Dior’s headquarters in France last year (Oct15) to meet with eyewear designers and pick out vintage frames for reference.
In a statement provided by Dior, Rihanna named La Forge from Star Trek as her inspiration for the frames, adding, "I’ve always been obsessed with his eyewear, and when I got to Dior and saw all the materials I could play with, it all just came together."
"The process was pretty seamless," she states. "I spent a day at Dior with their eyewear design team. I started by looking through all the archives to see what they’ve done in the past, then got acquainted with all the new materials. I literally sat there and drew and drew until I was happy with the design, and the team illustrated it for me right then and there. We picked materials and colors that same day, and after that it was a matter of weeks before I saw the first prototype."
