The writer of the play which will mark Katie Holmes' return to Broadway was thrilled when she heard the actress would be a part of the show.
The 33 year old confirmed reports she has signed on to star in Theresa Rebeck's Dead Accounts this autumn (12) on Thursday (19Jul12), and the Pulitzer Prize finalist couldn't be happier with the casting news.
She tells website HollyScoop.com, "She (Holmes) is an extraordinary actress - delicate, funny, with a fierce and muscular decency. I am tingling with delight."
Rebeck was shortlisted for the Pulitzer Prize for co-writing the play Omnium Gatherum and she wowed critics and theatregoers alike last year (11) with Seminar. Rebeck also created hit TV drama Smash, which chronicles the lives of a group of young Broadway stars.
Holmes has released her own statement about the casting, adding, "I am thrilled to be coming back to the Broadway community and honored to be a part of this team."
The actress' co-stars have yet to be announced.
