Model Miranda Kerr has stunned actress Gwyneth Paltrow by praising the benefits of a leech facial.
Gwyneth has frequently raised eyebrows with the practices she and her team recommend on lifestyle blog Goop, such as vaginal steaming and bee sting therapy, but even she was amazed on Saturday (10Jun17) when Miranda revealed she had given leech therapy a try.
The Australian model was among the guest panelists at the first ever In Goop Health wellness summit in California, where she admitted she will go to great lengths all in the name of beauty.
"I've had a leech facial," Miranda told the crowd, prompting Gwyneth to remark, "Wow! I thought I was bats**t crazy!"
"It's adventurous," the newlywed 34-year-old replied, shrugging, "Health is wealth. They've been doing leech therapy for thousands of years."
Miranda, who also used the treatment on her tailbone, even decided to keep the worms after they helped to increase her blood circulation.
"I kept the leeches, they're in my koi pond," she said. "You're not allowed to reuse them and if you don't take them home, then she (therapist) kills them and I didn't like that idea."
Leech therapy involves having the animals placed on a patient's bare skin and having the blood they suck out mixed into a facial mask, which is then rubbed back into the face.
