Late Joan Rivers' daughter Melissa has spoken out for the first time since her mum's funeral, thanking fans for their condolences which have helped "lift their spirits".
The veteran comedienne died earlier this month (04Sep14) after she was removed from life support following a cardiac and respiratory arrest during a routine throat operation.
She was laid to rest in a funeral on 7 September (14), and celebrities and fans alike have been sending their well wishes to her daughter, TV personality Melissa, and her son Cooper.
Melissa took to Twitter.com on Wednesday (17Sep14) for the first time since saying goodbye to her mom one last time, and used the opportunity to show her gratitude for the outpouring of support.
She wrote, "As my son Cooper and I mourn the loss of my mother, we want to thank everyone for the beautiful cards and flowers conveying heartfelt messages and condolences, which continue to arrive from around the world and through social media.
"My mother would have been overwhelmed by the scope and depth of the love that people have expressed for her. It is certainly helping to lift our spirits during this time.
"We are forever grateful for your kindness and support in continuing to honor my mother's legacy, and for remembering the joy and laughter that she brought to so many."
The same day, bosses at E! network, where Joan co-hosted style show Fashion Police and Melissa serves as producer, announced that 19 September (14) will be 'Joan Day', in which a 12-hour marathon of Fashion Police will run, culminating in a special tribute featuring Joan's former co-hosts and Melissa, who will make her first on-air appearance since Joan's death.
