Matt Damon is returning to Cambridge, Massachusetts to give the commencement speech at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where his Good Will Hunting character worked as a janitor.
The Oscar winner and Ben Affleck shot to fame with their hit 1997 film, which featured Damon as the gifted blue-collar worker at the prestigious school, and on 3 June (16), he will return to his hometown to deliver MIT's 2016 commencement address.
"I feel a deep affinity for MIT having grown up in the neighborhood," he tells MIT News. "It’s quite an honor to be the commencement speaker at a school that I couldn't have gotten into."
Damon attended a local Cambridge high school with his good friend Affleck, and The Martian star later enrolled at Harvard University. However, he left in 1992 just one semester shy of receiving his bachelor's degree in English in hopes of pursuing an acting career.
