Lindsay Lohan is convinced she wouldn't have spent so much time behind bars and on the front of tabloids if she had taken her mother's advice and walked away from Hollywood.
The Parent Trap star hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons throughout her 20s, with stories about her drink and drug abuse with forced her into rehab, as well as a spate of convictions for driving under influence and violating the terms of her probation.
But a move to the U.K. appears to have worked wonders for the once-troubled star, and she appears to have cleaned up her life.
Now engaged to Russian businessman Egor Tarabasov, the actress is proud of where her life is now but doesn't want to reflect on her past too negatively and with too many regrets.
"I wouldn't call things regrets, per se," she tells Vanity Fair magazine. "I can't turn back time. But if I could, I would have listened more to my mother and gone back home to New York City earlier in life and chosen my friends more wisely."
As the actress is preparing to celebrate turning 30 on Saturday (02Jul16), she is also closing out her 20s by considering what the new Lindsay would have told her younger self.
"I can't say that I would have listened then," she laughs. "My mother taught me to always be humble, and that is something I live by still today, so I would say that. I would also probably say, 'Don't go too fast', (and), 'Pay attention to the people you surround yourself with, and make sure they have honest intentions. Put yourself first, and just breathe. Be happy and always be grateful for the moment you have in front of you. Be here, now'."
